Standards

The MASL Standards Task Force worked through the 22-23 school year to develop instructional standards, gather feedback from MASL members, and publish a standards document that includes standards, alignment, glossary and additional supports.  In February 2024, the MASL Executive Council voted to adopt the standards.  The standards include Learner Expectations and Competencies at PK, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12 grade bands.  They are organized by the Big Ideas of Reading Engagement, Information Literacy, Media Literacy, and Innovation.  The task force has presented sessions at multiple MASL conferences and PD events and will continue to provide professional development to support implementation at these events and by request at region meetings or other events.  The task force represented all regions and grade levels throughout the scope of their work to create new instructional standards. MASL will continue to pursue DESE adoption.
