MASL Leadership

The MASL Board of Directors is comprised of officers, committee chairs, region directors and other representatives.

MASL Governing Documents include more information on Board composition, roles and responsibilities, and selection.

Officers

These officers comprise the MASL Executive Committee.

President

Jennifer Millikan, St. Joseph’s Academy

The President shall be a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), and shall have the following duties:  to preside at all meetings of the Association, Board and Council; to serve as Ex-Officio member of all Standing and Special Committees; to serve as the Official Delegate to the AASL Affiliate Assembly held at ALA Midwinter Conference; to serve as Official Delegate to AASL Region III meetings; to represent MASL at Missouri State Legislative Day and Missouri Governor’s Proclamation Day; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

 

First Vice-President

Amy Hertzberg, Nevada Middle School, Nevada R-V School District

The First Vice President/President Elect shall be a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), and shall have the following duties: to preside at all meetings of the Association, Board and Council in the absence of the President; to serve as Co-Chair of the Finance Committee; to serve as Co-Chair of the Annual Spring Conference; to serve as Ex-Officio member of all Standing and Special Committees of the Association, Board or Council; to serve as Official Delegate to the AASL Affiliate Assembly held at ALA Annual Conference; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

 

Second Vice-President

Kirsten Shaw, Martin Warren Elementary, Warrensburg School District

The Second Vice-President shall have the following duties: to preside at all meetings of the Association, Board and Council in the absence of the President and First Vice-President/President Elect; to serve as Ex-Officio member of the Professional Education Committee; to serve as Chair of the Fall Seminar Committee; to represent MASL at the biennial AASL Conference when it occurs during the Second Vice-President’s term of office; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

 

Secretary

Lisa Newton, Clarkton C-4 School District

The Secretary shall have the following duties: to keep minutes of all meetings of the Association, the Board and the Council; to prepare the MASL Annual Report; to serve as MASL Archivist/Historian; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

 

Treasurer

Rebecca Parker, Border Star Montessori, Kansas City Public Schools

The Treasurer shall have the following duties: to oversee the receipt and expenditure of funds and financial records of the Association; to serve as Co-Chair of the Finance Committee; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

 

Past-President

Mernie Maestas, Boone Trail Elementary, Wentzville R-IV School District

The Past-President shall have the following duties: to serve as Parliamentarian at Council and Board meetings; to serve as Chair of the Nominations Committee; to serve as Co-Chair of the Professional Education Committee; to represent MASL at the annual ALA National Legislative Day; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

 

AASL Affiliate Assembly Delegate

Victoria Jones, Wydown Middle School, School District of Clayton

The AASL Affiliate Assembly Delegate shall be a member of ALA and AASL and shall have the following duties: to serve as Official Delegate to the AASL Affiliate Assembly held at ALA Annual and Midwinter Conferences; to serve as Official Delegate to AASL Region III meetings; to represent MASL at the biennial AASL Conference held during the term of office; to serve as Co-Chair of the Professional Education Committee; to assist with all matters related to Intellectual Freedom and challenged materials; and to perform all duties set forth in the MASL Policies and Procedures for this office.

Each Region’s Director/President serves on the Board.

 

Other Representatives

DESE Representative

Lisa ScroggsAssistant Director of English Language Arts, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

The MO DESE Representative serves as a liaison between MASL and the MO Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This seat provides the Association with information about current issues relating to education, libraries and librarians. In addition, this seat offers suggestions on member recruitment, education and retention through various resources in the state agency. The MO DESE representative holds non-voting seat on the Board.

 

MO State Library Representative

Robin WestphalState Librarian, Missouri State Library

The Missouri State Librarian, or a representative appointed by the State Librarian, serves as a liaison between MASL and the State Library. This seat offers current library policy and procedure updates to the Association. The Missouri State Librarian or appointed representative holds a non-voting seat on the Board.
